A Love Letter to My Mother
Mommy,
You were the strongest woman I have ever known.
Living with the effects of polio never stopped you from embracing life. You loved to laugh, dance, cook, and encourage everyone around you. You taught us that our circumstances should never define what we are capable of becoming.
Your favorite saying was, “You don't know unless you try.”
And you lived by those words.
You taught me to believe in myself, even when I struggled to see my own potential. You encouraged my education, helped guide my career, and celebrated every accomplishment with that beautiful, proud smile.
But most importantly, you taught me that a person's worth is never determined by their physical abilities, financial circumstances, or limitations.
When your health declined and you eventually entered a nursing home, I witnessed how deeply losing your independence affected you. Before I could find a way to bring you home, you passed away.
That experience changed my life.
Silver Pearls is my tribute to you and to the life I believe you wanted for yourself and for others: a life filled with dignity, comfort, laughter, independence, and choice.
You helped me find my profession. Your life helped me find my purpose.
I will always be proud to be your daughter.
